PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Branding for Bogyiszló (HU) based licensed traditional small-scale producer, Adrienn Tóth’s home made products for diabetics: jams, syrups, chutneys and pates.
The story of the brand is rather heart warming. The client’s daughter, Lídia had been diagnosed diabetic about a year and a half ago and that has completely transformed the life of the family.
Among all the changes they had to face and adjust to, Lídia’s mom decided to take control over the food department as well. Since monitoring the food (sugar) intake is a big part of a diabetic person’s life especially for kids, she started to make different home made products without additional sugar or preservatives.
And Lídia—the brand—was born. The logo includes the blue circle as the international symbol of diabetes.
The current assortment consists of three designs for a 235ml jar (wild garlic pesto, fig chutney, onion chutney), one for a 250ml (batata paté), one for 330ml (sweet cherry jam), eight for a 350ml jar (apricot, peach, plum, quince, strawberry, rose hip jams and two types of bread spreads) and three for a 550ml bottle of syrups (elderflower, strawberry and lavender).
Each label received a unique illustration with Lídia as the lead figure. She is playing around with enlarged fruits and vegetables, accompanied by her pet friends—this way kids can focus on something fun while eating rather than feeling of missing out sweet moments due of their illness.
Three references from pop culture appear on two labels:
• on the spicy quince jar Lídia is wearing David Bowie’s iconic Ziggy Stardust make-up while greeting the buyer with Spock’s Vulcan salute
• on the sweet cherry label Richard Scarry’s Lowly Worm appears as a tribute to him as one of my favourite illustrator.
To introduce the brand to it’s major market we created colouring sheets from the illustrations. Every market day while the parents are doing their shopping the children are watched over and entertained.
